Key Stage 4
We have at present, roughly 40 students a year doing GCSE Art and Design (about a third of the year group). Results are successful with between 70 – 80 % achieving an A-C grade in recent years.
We do the AQA Art and Design GCSE course where 60% is coursework and the remaining 40% an end of course 10 hour exam. The two years are divided up into three coursework projects. Each project requires a work journal, and starts with a foundation of skills and workshops aimed at broadening a student’s experience and knowledge of art media. Linked to these sessions students have structured lessons covering the work of historical and contemporary artists. The second half of each project focuses in on a student’s personal response to the brief and our role as teachers his to help them realise their ideas in one or more final pieces.
