Key Stage 5 (AS/A2, and Btec)
Post-16 art is a valued part of the school and has a long and successful history with many students going on to foundation and college art and design courses.
Students have 5 hours of lessons a week, and there are two studio areas set aside for them to work outside lesson times. They do the EDXCEL course which has a 60% coursework weighting. Students are encouraged to work on a large scale and to explore a range of media. The contextual studies are a strong part of the course, with structured learning sessions introducing students to a range of themes in contemporary art practice and aspects of art history. Gallery visits are an important part of the course and these include tours of the growing gallery scene in East London. As with the GCSE we value each students personal response to briefs and aim to support each of them in the choices they make and the paths they wish to explore.
