We follow the Edexcel examination for Yr 11 GCSE. We are proud of the fact that we offer all the triple award, double award and single science. This means that we can tailor the course to suit the strengths of our students. Our results continue to improve with an overall pass rate of about 70%.

For Year 10 the department has moved to Science for the 21st Century course. The change was initiated by a country wide review of the science GCSE course with the 21st Century being selected by the department as one which would best engage the students and offer a course which provided the variety required to match the students. The examination involves the students sitting modules papers in January and June. Around Easter of Year 10 the students will be advised to follow the additional science course or the applied science course for those studying double science GCSE. Initial feedback form the students has been positive with the students engaging in discussions on Genetic testing and the ethical issues that this raises, Air quality and what we can do to improve it and the effects is has on the body and how science is based upon the evidence of that time. We have still maintained the Separate science course.

Our website includes the teaching rotations for each class and the module examination dates. There are also links to websites which help with GSCE revision, and there are some lists for students to structure their studies.

As coursework is a vital component of the GCSE, there is assistance on the website to help students with their coursework. We have also included guidelines on how coursework is marked.
