The Mill
The Mill
Residential Fieldwork Centre
The school is committed to providing residential experience for its pupils and
students of all ages. We have our own semi-rural residential centre known as The
Mill. It is located on the Surrey/Sussex borders in a small village, Forest Green,
a few miles south of Dorking. The area is designated an “Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty'.
The Mill is an estate of about 10 acres of woodland, meadow and stream –
virtually a wildlife reserve with an old corn watermill and attached cottages which have
been converted to provide year-round sleeping accommodation for up to 34 pupils and 8
staff. We have added a fieldwork laboratory, a large computer-equipped classroom
and a games room.
Almost all pupils attend a week's camp at the Mill, under canvas, in July, at the
end of their first year in the School. There is fieldwork in Biology and Geography and
also much sport and adventurous activity.
At various times during the succeeding years, pupils go to the Mill for GCSE fieldwork, for intensive study weekends in a variety of subjects, and for work and master classes in music and drama. Sixth Form groups have revision sessions prior to A-Levels. The staff also use the Mill as a professional development centre, with residential in-service training courses.
The Mill is staffed by wardens provided by a local company Adventure and Computer
Holidays Ltd who are hugely experienced in organising activity holidays for
children. The Mill is available for use by other schools and youth groups. For
availability, prices and booking details please telephone: 01306 711 005 or email themill@holiday-adventure.com.
