Richard Knight Memorial Concert

William Ellis School hall was packed with hundreds of students, parents and teachers celebrating the memory of Richard Knight. Richard lost a long term battle with cancer in the summer of 2006, after almost five years of dedicated service to the school where he oversaw the growth and maturity of the popular music department and the development of its new facilities.

Those who attended were treated to a diverse programme of music featuring jazz, vocals and rock. Between performances there were many moving speeches. Many students described how Richard had developed their musical skills and mentored their musical ambitions. It was clear that Richard's dedication to teaching had touched both students and teachers alike.

The evening ended with a number of Clash covers and a collection for the Ecuador Rainforest Fund. Earlier in the month William Ellis students had raised £500 for the charity with a sponsored practice. It is hoped that the evening’s contribution will exceed this amount.

Congratulations go to all those involved in making the evening a huge success and a fitting tribute to a fantastic person.
