Stabbings - When Will It End?
On Saturday the 18th March Adam Regis, nephew of the former athlete John Regis, was stabbed to death.

The 15 year old was supposedly walking home from the Showcase Cinema in Beckton. Although his body was found quite far from his home, it is thought he caught a bus and was killed on the street attempting to get away from his killer.

Police at the moment are searching for two hooded men who were seen running away from the scene. The police have arrested a teenager over his death.

We interviewed three people, a sixth form student and Mr. Groves, an Assistant Head and the school’s policeman. We asked the sixth former whether he thought the stabbings had affected William Ellis. He replied ‘Yes I do, it makes you more aware that stabbings could happen at any time.’
We also asked if he though spot checks for weapons would be necessary. He didn’t think so. ‘Who would you target, someone with a schoolbag or someone with a hoodie? Either of them could be carrying a weapon. And if you targeted a black person they may feel offended.’ Then he said ‘It’s more likely that you’ll be a victim if you’re involved with gangs then if you stay away from trouble.’

We asked Mr. Groves if he thought anything like these stabbings could happen at William Ellis. ‘I wouldn’t think so, but it has previously. Two people from other schools came in and started a fight then the boy drew a knife and cut the outsider’s eye. I would hope it didn’t happen again’.

We also interviewed our school policeman asking the same questions. When we asked about spot checks, he replied: ‘I’m expected as part of my role to stop and search anyone who I think might have a weapon with them.’
The Head Teacher of Adam’s school, Kingsford Community School, said: ‘Adam was a pleasure to have around the school and we will always remember him with a smile on his face. Adam really was a model pupil. This is a tragic loss to everyone.’
All over the country many stabbings have occurred, but teachers and the police have been working together to try and put an end to the stabbings.
