School Entry System, is it Fair?
Getting into a secondary school in Britain is getting harder and harder as there just aren’t enough schools to meet the demand of primary schools. Many secondary schools have been forced to make catchment areas smaller but still the selection process is needed. People say this is unfair and should be sorted out.
A school in Brighton has been forced to create a lottery to get in. Parents a made to make a list of all the schools in order of what school they want most and some schools are offering places for children if parents put the school higher on the list. Lots of parent move to another house to be within the sought after catchment area.
A new system is being introduced which will cut down the emphasis on the catchment area to free up places for less advantaged children and people with learning disabilities. This will anger the rich parents who have paid lots of money for homes within the catchment area. When the catchment area shrinks to free up places, house prices will rise dramatically and this will cause a huge number of sales for people desperately trying to get there child into the ideal secondary school.
