Dear Parent/Carer,
LASWAP ‘A’ LEVEL RESULTS
This year’s results have been the best ‘A’ level results ever!
The overall ‘A’ level pass rate (A – E grades) is 97.1% (96.6% last year) compared to the national figure of 96.9%.
20 subjects achieved a 100% pass rate and 14 subjects had 80% and above A - C grades.
A - C grades stand at 75.1% (72.4% last year) compared with a national A – C figure of 72.8%.
VCE (Applied GCE) results are as strong as usual with the overall percentage pass rate at 98.8% compared to 97% last year.
As ever, these results are provisional. Congratulations are due to all students and staff involved.
GCSE RESULTS
Our GCSE results this year have not matched last year’s record levels of achievement. At present -and the results are provisional – the year group achieved around 50% at 5 A* – C passes. We still have a few final grades to be confirmed and we would expect this figure to rise when the process is complete. That said, a good number of boys achieved remarkable sets of results and performed admirably. However, the overall percentage of 5 A* - C passes is still a tribute to the hard work of both the boys and the staff at the school.
I would also like to congratulate the Year 10 boys who took GCSE’s in French, Mathematics and Religious Studies this year on their results.
SAT’S RESULTS for the Year 9 group moving into Year 10 are also encouraging. Maths, 79% of boys achieved a level 5 or over with a greater percentage than ever obtaining level 6 - 7 passes. 12 boys achieved a level 8 pass in Science, 78% of our boys achieved a level 5 with a pleasing amount of boys achieving a level 6 or 7 pass. In English provisional results indicate that 79% achieved level 5 or above which is an improvement upon last year’s results.
Progress in all three core areas, therefore, has been sound and Year 9 boys should move onto their GCSE studies with real confidence of success.
SCHOOL TIES
We have introduced a system to distinguish the three year groups in Key Stage 3 by their ties. Year 7 students wear a blue and yellow striped tie, Year 8 with an added green stripe and Year 9 with an added red stripe. All boys going into Year 8 and 9 will therefore need to purchase a new tie on or before their return on 6th September. These will be available from the School Office from Monday 3rd September at a cost of £2.50.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS
If your son is entitled to a Free School Meal and you have not yet applied please return your form, with proof, to the school office on the first day of term. Free School Meals forms are available from the School Office.
CONTACT DETAILS
Please notify the School Office immediately of any changes to your son’s emergency contact details ie. change of address/telephone numbers/e-mail.
UNIFORM AND ATTENDANCE
I would like to remind all boys that we are a uniform school and it is the expectation that all boys will be in full school uniform in September.
I would also remind all boys that attendance and punctuality is core to the start of any learning programme and would ask that you will encourage your son in these two vital elements of his schooling.
