The William Ellis School Parents Association – WESPA (formerly WESA) – is an association of parents, teachers, support staff, former students and friends of the School. Sixth Form students are associate members.
Parents form the backbone of WESPA, and active members work extremely hard in support of the School – much of that support being the practical, fund-raising effort so important for the survival of a Voluntary Aided School. Thousands of pounds are raised each year, some in the course of friendly social events. Members help with drama productions, technical work in the media studio, with a school clothes shop and with estate maintenance at the Mill.
All pupils at the School benefit directly from WESPA's previous fund-raising activities when they use the Biology and junior Science Laboratories, the classrooms next to the West Courtyard, the Art Rooms, the Computer Rooms and their equipment, the Mill Residential Centre, the Library extension, the Multigym and the Sixth Form Centre. All were built with the aid of parental fund-raising.
The Millennium Project provided a bigger library, more classrooms and an extra Art room, all within the frame of the present building. We do not want to admit more pupils but to make better provision for those who are here, and we have ambitious plans to continue development if the funds can be found.
The School and the families whose sons attend it are greatly indebted to WESPA, and we ask new members to help in some practical way, if at all possible, to enrich the education of our pupils – not just now but in the years to come.
The three elected parent governors liaise closely with WESPA and its programme of activities.
